Why teams look for a Schematic alternative
Schematic does one job: it lets product and engineering manage plans, entitlements and overrides without redeploying code. People look elsewhere for three different reasons.
- Volume pricing. The free plan stops at 5,000 USD a month of billing volume, and Growth is 400 USD a month. Beyond that, pricing is quoted and tied to the revenue you process.
- Fit. A founder or finance lead may have shortlisted an engineering tool when the open question is commercial: what should the Team plan cost.
- Stack. You may want metering and invoicing rather than an entitlements layer.
Decide which of these you are in first. The tools below solve different problems, and a feature checklist across them misleads.
Schematic plans and pricing at the time of writing
These figures come from Schematic's published pricing page. Confirm them before you buy.
| Plan | Price | Included | Notable limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | Full platform, email support | Up to 5,000 USD a month billing volume, 2 custom plans |
| Growth | 400 USD a month | Unlimited customers, a dedicated billing engineer in a private Slack channel | Up to 15 custom plans and 20 overrides |
| Enterprise | Talk to sales | No custom plan or override caps, role-based access, SLAs, longer audit logs | Priced on billing volume or a flat rate |
Schematic alternatives compared
| Option | Price | Best for | Where Schematic wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stigg | Free Build, Pro 399 USD a month billed yearly (499 monthly), Scale from 50,000 USD a year | Entitlements, credits and metering at runtime | Schematic's Growth plan includes a billing engineer on Slack |
| Orb | Not published | Usage-based billing with flexible plans | Schematic is focused on plans and entitlements, not invoicing |
| Metronome | Not published | Enterprise usage metering and billing | Schematic has a public price ladder to start |
| Stripe Billing | Percentage of billing volume, see Stripe | Subscriptions and basic metered billing | Richer plan and override management |
| Monetisation | From 49 USD a month billed yearly, 99 USD monthly | Deciding which price, plan or discount to change, with a dollar estimate and measurement | Schematic enforces plans in code, Monetisation never touches your product or Stripe prices |
Orb and Metronome do not publish prices at the time of writing, so a cost comparison there needs a sales call. For Stigg, see our Stigg alternatives comparison.
When Monetisation is the better choice
Pick it when the decision on your desk is commercial. You paste your pricing page, connect Stripe with a read-only key, and get ranked changes such as raising the Team plan, moving a usage limit, adding an overage price or offering a yearly plan. Each carries a low, expected and high monthly dollar range and the assumption behind it. The SaaS tiered pricing optimization page walks one tier change through with the arithmetic.
On Growth and Scale you can test a pricing page variant with a holdout and read revenue per visitor, as covered in pricing experimentation software. Monetisation does not meter usage, gate features or send invoices.
When to stay with Schematic
Keep Schematic if your plans and limits change often and engineers are tired of shipping code for every override, or if sales needs to hand a customer a custom plan in minutes. Moving off a plan management layer is an engineering project. A pricing decision tool does not replace it.
Before you set limits on an AI feature, it also helps to know what each tier costs to serve. Teams in that spot often start by checking what each customer costs them in cloud and AI spend, so an included allowance does not run at a loss.
How to choose in four steps
- Write the decision. "Enforce this limit" needs an engineering tool. "What should this plan cost" needs a decision tool.
- Check price at your size. Schematic Growth at 400 USD a month is 4,800 USD a year. Monetisation Growth at 199 USD a month billed yearly is 2,388 USD a year, and Starter is 588 USD.
- List what you must keep. Entitlements, metering, invoicing and plan overrides are not substitutes.
- Run the cheap one first. A sample audit needs no card and tells you whether a pricing change is worth an engineering project.

Questions
What is the best alternative to Schematic?
For plan and entitlement management in code, Stigg is the nearest match, with Orb and Metronome stronger on usage billing. Stripe Billing covers basics. Monetisation fits when the open question is which price or plan to change and what it earns, not how to enforce limits.
How much does Schematic cost?
At the time of writing Schematic lists a free Starter plan up to 5,000 USD a month in billing volume and 2 custom plans, Growth at 400 USD a month with up to 15 custom plans and 20 overrides, and Enterprise on request. Pricing scales with billing volume. Check schematichq.com for current terms.
Is Schematic free?
Schematic has a free Starter plan with the full platform, email support, a cap of 5,000 USD a month in billing volume and 2 custom plans. Once you pass the volume cap or need more plans you move to Growth at 400 USD a month.
What does Schematic do?
Schematic is a commercial infrastructure layer for plans, entitlements and billing logic. Product teams use it to define plans, gate features, set overrides and connect to billing without hardcoding limits. It does not estimate the revenue effect of changing a price.
Can Monetisation replace Schematic?
Not if Schematic enforces entitlements in your product. Monetisation never gates features or changes Stripe prices. It reads Stripe read-only, ranks pricing changes in dollars and measures what happened. Many teams use an enforcement tool and a decision tool together.
