Monetisation

Revenue optimization software for subscriptions, content, apps and marketplaces

Revenue optimization software finds where a business can earn more from the customers and traffic it already has. Monetisation connects to Stripe, your website and analytics, compares 16 revenue streams, and lists specific opportunities with an estimated monthly impact range, the method behind it and an experiment to measure the result.

Revenue optimization for digital businesses, not hotel rooms

The phrase "revenue management software" has a long history in hotels and airlines, where it means setting the price of a room or seat for each night or flight based on demand. If that is what you need, Monetisation is the wrong tool. It does not manage rates, occupancy or channel distribution.

Monetisation is revenue optimisation software for businesses that earn from subscriptions, usage, content, apps, marketplaces and data. Its job is to look at every way you make money today, find the streams that are underperforming or missing, and tell you in dollars which change to try next.

Opportunities, ranked by expected value Example
Discounts Reduce discount leakage Coupons meant for one campaign are still applied to new yearly deals.
Estimate, per month +$1,700 $900 to $2,600
Method: Discount value on deals outside the intended campaigns, times the share that would buy at list price.
Example card with illustrative figures. Your audit computes them from your own data, as estimates, not a guarantee of results.

The problem with optimising one stream at a time

Most revenue tools specialise. One handles app paywalls. Another handles display ads. Another handles B2B price lists for distributors. Each is useful inside its lane, and none of them tells you whether your next dollar is more likely to come from a price increase, a sponsorship slot, an annual plan or a fix to your discount policy.

Monetisation starts from the whole revenue stack. It covers 16 streams:

  • Subscriptions and pricing
  • Usage pricing and overages
  • Paywalls and premium features
  • Trials and retention offers
  • Upsell, cross sell and bundles
  • Discounts and discount leakage
  • Advertising, affiliate and sponsorship
  • Take rate and transaction fees
  • Licensing, including AI crawler licensing
  • API and data monetisation

The opportunity library holds more than 40 opportunity types across those streams. An audit runs every relevant check against your data and ranks the results by expected impact, effort and risk.

How it works

Connect read-only sources

Stripe connects through a restricted read-only key. Analytics, Search Console, HubSpot, Salesforce and ad platforms connect through read scopes. A product database connects through a read-only connection, or you upload usage events as CSV. Monetisation never changes prices, charges, customers or subscriptions.

Build a revenue model

From those sources Monetisation builds a single model: MRR, ARR, ARPU, plan mix, discount usage, churn, expansion, share of annual subscriptions, traffic by channel and revenue per visitor. This is the base every opportunity is calculated from.

Rank opportunities

Each opportunity card shows an estimated monthly impact as a range (low, expected, high), a confidence level, effort, risk and the method in plain words. A typical method line reads like this: "12 percent price increase on 214 Team accounts, 4 percent assumed extra churn, based on your last 6 months." Every figure is labelled "Estimate" and is not a guarantee of results. The page on how estimates work explains the method in full.

Run the experiment

"Run experiment" turns an opportunity into a test with a hypothesis, a metric, a baseline and a window. Pricing page and paywall variants run through a small snippet with a holdout group on Growth and Scale. Changes you make in your own billing are measured against the baseline trend. Everything else gets a playbook checklist. Results end in a verdict: win, flat, loss or not enough data.

A worked example across streams

Consider a hypothetical online business with a subscription product and a content site that drives sign-ups. Its revenue model shows 60,000 USD MRR, 300,000 monthly visits and almost no annual subscribers. An audit might rank opportunities like this:

Opportunity Stream Expected impact per month Confidence Effort
Add an annual plan at 20 percent off, default on Subscriptions 2,400 USD Medium Low
End stacked coupons on renewals Discount leakage 1,100 USD High Low
Overage price above plan limit Usage pricing 1,800 USD Medium Medium
Sponsored newsletter slot Sponsorship 900 USD Low Medium
Affiliate links on comparison articles Affiliate 500 USD Low Low

The figures are hypothetical and each would come with a low and high bound and its own method. The value of the view is the comparison: the team can see that the annual plan and the coupon fix are both cheap and likely, while sponsorship is uncertain and slower. Without a cross-stream view, the sponsorship idea often wins simply because someone in the room is excited about it.

Revenue optimization for each business model

The checks that matter depend on how you earn.

  • SaaS teams usually start with pricing, plan mix, annual share and discount policy. Our page on pricing optimization software goes deeper.
  • Publishers and content sites compare ads, affiliate, sponsorship, memberships and licensing by revenue per visitor. See website monetization.
  • Marketplaces look at take rate, seller premium features and transaction fees. See marketplace take rate optimization.
  • Apps and games focus on paywall placement, trial length and offers.
  • API and data businesses look at usage tiers, overages and data licensing.

What you get on each plan

Plan Price billed yearly Connected sources Audits per month AI analyst questions
Starter 49 USD per month 3 4 100 per month
Growth 199 USD per month 10 20 500 per month
Scale 599 USD per month 30 80 2,000 per month

Monthly billing is 99, 399 or 1,199 USD. Growth adds the discount leakage monitor, competitor pricing watch for up to 10 pages, snippet variants with holdout and Slack alerts. Scale adds up to 5 brands or products, SSO SAML, an audit log, API access and a security review pack. Every plan is paid, there are no credits, and each one is a subscription you can cancel from billing.

Why the method matters more than the headline

A tool that tells you there is "200,000 USD of untapped revenue" without showing how it got there is easy to ignore, and should be. Monetisation adds up the expected values of open opportunities into an "Untapped monetisation" counter on the dashboard, but every number underneath it can be opened to show its inputs and assumptions. If you think churn would rise more than the model assumes, the range tells you what happens under that view.

That transparency is also why experiments matter. The estimate gets you to try something. The measured result tells you whether to keep it.

Questions

What is revenue optimization software?

It is software that analyses revenue data to find changes that increase income from existing customers and traffic: pricing, packaging, upsells, retention offers or new streams such as sponsorship or licensing. Good tools also measure what happened after the change.

Is Monetisation a hotel revenue management system?

No. Monetisation is built for digital businesses such as SaaS, apps, publishers, marketplaces, online shops and API companies. It does not manage room rates, occupancy, channel managers or airline seat inventory.

What is the difference between revenue management and revenue optimization?

Revenue management usually means setting prices for perishable inventory, such as rooms or seats, day by day. Revenue optimization is broader and covers any change that lifts revenue, including pricing, plans, upsells, discounts and new revenue streams.

Which data sources does Monetisation connect to?

Stripe with a restricted read-only key, your website, Google Analytics 4 and Search Console, HubSpot or Salesforce, a read-only product database, Google Ads and Meta Ads, plus CSV exports of anything else.

Do I need a data team to use it?

No. Connecting sources takes minutes and the opportunities are written in plain language with the arithmetic shown. The AI analyst answers questions about your own revenue model on paid plans.
