Who looks for a Price Intelligently alternative
Most people searching for this are SaaS founders, heads of growth or finance leads who used ProfitWell for metrics and remember Price Intelligently as the pricing side of that company. Some had a project with them. Others meant to and found that the business had moved.
The short version of what happened: ProfitWell built Price Intelligently around willingness to pay research and value-based pricing. Paddle bought ProfitWell in 2022. In November 2024 Paddle sold Price Intelligently, team included, to SBI Growth, a go-to-market consultancy in Southlake, Texas, which folded it into its consulting practice.
So the service still exists, but it is a consulting engagement now, scoped and quoted per project. If that is what you want, it remains a credible option. If what you actually want is a pricing tool your own team can run every month, you are looking for a different kind of product.
What you get with Monetisation instead
Monetisation is self-serve pricing and monetization software. You connect sources with read-only access and it builds a revenue model, then audits it against more than 40 opportunity types.
- Stripe with a restricted read-only key. MRR, ARR, ARPU, plan mix, discounts, churn and expansion, recalculated as data refreshes.
- Your website and pricing page. Plan structure, annual toggle, paywalls, trial terms and what competitors show on theirs.
- Analytics and CRM. Google Analytics 4, Search Console, HubSpot or Salesforce, plus a product database or CSV for usage.
- An opportunity list in dollars. Each item carries a low, expected and high monthly estimate, a confidence level and the method in one plain sentence.
- Experiments with a holdout. Pricing page and paywall variants through a small script on Growth and Scale, or billing changes you make measured against the baseline trend.
Nothing is changed in your billing account. Monetisation reads, estimates and measures. You decide and you apply.
Price Intelligently and Monetisation side by side
| Price Intelligently (SBI Growth) | Monetisation | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Pricing strategy consulting with data analytics | Self-serve pricing and monetization software |
| How you buy it | Scoped engagement, quoted per project | Published monthly or yearly plans |
| Published price | Not published that we could find | 49 to 599 USD a month billed yearly |
| Core method | Willingness to pay research, value-based pricing, expert recommendations | Your billing, usage and traffic data, rule and AI analysis |
| Customer surveys | Yes, a core strength | No |
| Time to first findings | Weeks, after discovery | Minutes after connecting Stripe and your site |
| Measurement after changes | Depends on the engagement | Built in, with a verdict for every test |
| Ongoing monitoring | Ends with the project unless retained | Continuous, reruns as data refreshes |
| Change management and stakeholder alignment | Strong, an outside team runs it | Not provided |
| Who it suits best | Repositioning, new markets, complex enterprise deals | SaaS teams with billing history who want steady, measured gains |
The honest read of that table: if you need a team to interview customers and walk your board through a new pricing model, a consultancy wins. If you need to know this month whether your Team plan is underpriced and then prove it, software wins on cost and speed.
Where Price Intelligently is still the better choice
We would rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one from us.
- No pricing history. A new product or a new segment gives software little to read. Survey-based willingness to pay research fills that gap.
- A business model change. Moving from licenses to subscriptions, or seats to usage, touches contracts, sales compensation and customer messaging.
- Internal disagreement. When sales, product and finance each want something different, an outside team can broker a decision that sticks.
- Large negotiated deals. Deal desk design, procurement terms and multi-year contracts sit outside self-serve software.
If two or more of these describe you, talk to a consultancy first. Our page on pricing strategy consulting versus pricing software covers the trade-offs in more depth.
Where Monetisation is the better choice
Software tends to win when the questions are operational and the data already exists.
- You have a year or more of Stripe history. Enough to see which plans customers choose, where they upgrade and where discounts pile up.
- You suspect specific leaks. A missing annual option, a plan gap between tiers, coupons that never expired, heavy users on flat plans. These show up as line items with estimates.
- You want proof. Every change gets a baseline period, a test window and a verdict, including losses. The page on how estimates work shows how ranges and confidence are set.
- You want it every month. Pricing drifts as products, competitors and customer mix change. A rerun after each data refresh catches that drift.
- You cannot justify a project fee. A year of Growth costs 2,388 USD billed yearly.
What a first audit usually finds for a SaaS
These are typical opportunity types for a subscription business with a few hundred paying accounts. Your own list depends on your data.
| Opportunity | What the data shows | How it is estimated |
|---|---|---|
| Underpriced popular plan | Most new customers pick the middle plan and it sits below comparable tools | Price change on new customers only, minus an assumed churn from the change |
| Annual plan gap | Few customers pay yearly, or the yearly discount is too small to matter | Monthly accounts with steady tenure, times an expected switch rate |
| Discount leakage | Campaign coupons still applied to new deals months later | Discount value outside intended campaigns, times share likely to pay list |
| Missing top tier | Heavy accounts hit plan limits with nowhere to grow | Accounts near limits, times upgrade share, times the price gap |
| Usage overages | A share of accounts use far more than the plan includes | Usage above allowance, times a per unit rate, minus expected throttling |
Each line links to a playbook and a "Run experiment" button. You can read the detail on pricing optimization software and on the SaaS use case.
What switching costs you
There is little to migrate. You do not move billing, you do not install an SDK in your product (the pricing page script for variant tests is optional), and you do not replace ProfitWell Metrics or any analytics you already use.
- Run a sample audit. Enter your website above. In about a minute you see the first three opportunities with estimates and methods, with no card.
- Create your account and pick a plan. Starter covers 3 sources, Growth 10, Scale 30.
- Connect Stripe read-only. A restricted key with read scopes. Then add your site, analytics and CRM.
- Review the full audit. Sort by expected impact, effort or confidence, and mark what you will test.
- Run the first experiment. Pick a pricing page variant or a billing change, set the window, and wait for the verdict.
If you have a past Price Intelligently report, keep it. Its recommendations make a good first test queue.
Cost of each route in year one
A hypothetical SaaS at 60,000 USD MRR comparing a consulting project with a year of software:
| Consulting project | Monetisation Growth, billed yearly | |
|---|---|---|
| Direct cost | Project fee, illustrated here at 40,000 USD | 2,388 USD |
| MRR gain held for 12 months to pay it back | About 3,333 USD | About 199 USD |
| Measurement of results | Depends on scope | Included |
The project fee is an illustration, not a quote from SBI or anyone else. The point is the payback bar, which differs by more than ten times. For a company at that size, one corrected plan price can clear the software bar in the first month.
Start with your own numbers
The fastest way to judge any pricing tool is to see what it says about your business. Run the sample audit at the top of this page, then check pricing for plan limits. If the findings look like a repositioning rather than a set of fixes, take them to a consultant as a ready-made data brief.
Questions
What happened to Price Intelligently?
Price Intelligently started as the pricing research arm of ProfitWell. Paddle bought ProfitWell in 2022, and in November 2024 Paddle sold Price Intelligently, including its team, to SBI Growth, a go-to-market consultancy based in Texas. It now sits inside SBI's consulting services.
Is Price Intelligently still part of Paddle?
No. Paddle announced the sale of all Price Intelligently assets and the team to SBI Growth in November 2024, saying it wanted to focus on its billing, retention and ProfitWell Metrics products. Paddle no longer sells pricing strategy projects under that name.
What is a good alternative to Price Intelligently?
It depends on what you bought it for. For a one-off repositioning with customer surveys, another pricing consultancy is the closest match. For ongoing work on the data you already have, such as finding underpriced plans, discount leakage and annual plan gaps, self-serve pricing software like Monetisation costs far less and measures every change.
How much does Price Intelligently cost?
SBI does not publish a price list for Price Intelligently work that we could find. Engagements are scoped and quoted per project, like most pricing consultancies. Monetisation publishes its prices: 49, 199 or 599 USD a month billed yearly, or 99, 399 or 1,199 USD billed monthly.
Does Monetisation run willingness to pay surveys?
No. Monetisation works from behavior: billing history, plan mix, discounts, usage and traffic. It does not run Van Westendorp or conjoint surveys. If you need survey research for a product with no pricing history, a consultancy is the better fit.
Can I switch from a consulting project to Monetisation halfway?
You do not need to switch. Many teams keep the consultant's recommendations and use Monetisation to test them, with a baseline period, a test window and a verdict of win, flat, loss or not enough data for each change.
