Why founders look for a Baremetrics alternative
Baremetrics is a solid subscription analytics product. It connects to Stripe and other billing systems and gives you MRR, churn, LTV, trial insights and a long list of other metrics on a clean dashboard. People rarely leave because the numbers are wrong.
They leave for one of four reasons:
- Price creep. Baremetrics prices by ARR band. As you grow past 360,000 USD ARR you move from Launch to Growth, and the add-ons for payment recovery and cancellation insights cost extra on top.
- They want it free. Early-stage teams under 10,000 USD MRR often do not want to pay for metrics at all.
- They run a mobile app. App store subscriptions need a tool built around Apple and Google billing.
- The dashboard does not tell them what to do. It is a common frustration. Churn is up, ARPU is flat, and the chart is beautiful, but nobody knows which price, plan or discount to change.
Each reason points to a different kind of alternative. Choosing well starts with being honest about which one is yours.
Baremetrics pricing in 2026
Here is what Baremetrics publishes on its pricing page, checked in October 2026:
| Plan | Starting price, billed monthly | ARR range | Notable inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | 75 USD a month | 0 to 360K USD | One integration, 28+ metrics, trial insights, email reports |
| Growth | 255 USD a month | 360K to 3.6M USD | Two integrations, custom dashboards, benchmarks, Slack and Intercom |
| Scale | 1,152 USD a month | 3.6M USD and up | Unlimited integrations, scenario planning, budget tracking, analytics API |
Yearly billing takes up to 35 percent off. Payment Recovery and Cancellation Insights are each 129 USD a month on any plan. A Growth customer who wants both is paying close to 513 USD a month before the yearly discount. Check the vendor's page before buying, since prices change.
Baremetrics alternatives compared
| Tool | Main job | Published price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChartMogul | Subscription analytics and revenue data platform | Free up to 10K USD MRR, paid tiers from 69 USD a month (57 billed yearly), Enterprise from 19,900 USD a year | Teams that want deeper analytics or several billing sources |
| ProfitWell Metrics (Paddle) | Subscription metrics | Free core metrics, paid retention products | Founders who want free MRR and churn reporting |
| Stripe Billing analytics | Basic subscription reporting inside Stripe | Part of the Stripe dashboard | Very early teams already on Stripe |
| RevenueCat | In-app subscription infrastructure with charts | Free tier, then a share of tracked revenue | iOS and Android subscription apps |
| Monetisation | Revenue actions: finds price, plan and discount changes, estimates them in dollars, tests them | 49 to 599 USD a month billed yearly | Founders who have metrics and want to know what to change |
The first four are metrics tools, like Baremetrics. Monetisation is a different category, which is why it sits last. More on that below.
ChartMogul
ChartMogul is the closest like-for-like alternative. It pulls subscription data from Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, app stores and others, cleans it, and reports MRR, churn, cohorts and LTV. Its free plan covers businesses up to 10,000 USD MRR, which makes it the default pick for companies at the start. Paid plans scale with the ARR you track.
Where it wins: data modelling, combining several billing systems, and the free tier. Where it falls short for some teams: it does not bundle payment recovery or cancellation surveys the way Baremetrics does, so you may need separate tools for those.
ProfitWell Metrics
ProfitWell Metrics, now part of Paddle, offers free subscription metrics with a Stripe connection. For a founder who mainly wants MRR, churn and plan breakdowns without another monthly bill, it is hard to beat on cost. Paddle sells retention and recovery products alongside it.
The trade-off is depth and focus. It is a strong free reporting layer, and less of a workspace for building custom analysis. Note that the old ProfitWell pricing consulting arm, Price Intelligently, was sold to SBI in 2024; if you were looking at it for pricing advice, our Price Intelligently alternative page covers that switch.
Stripe's built-in billing analytics
If you are on Stripe Billing and under a few hundred customers, the analytics inside the Stripe dashboard may be enough. You get MRR, subscriber counts, churn and trial conversion without connecting anything. It is the cheapest option because you already have it. You lose segmentation, benchmarks and anything that combines Stripe with other data.
RevenueCat
If your subscriptions run through the App Store and Google Play, Baremetrics was never a perfect fit. RevenueCat handles in-app purchases, entitlements and receipts, and its charts cover MRR, trial conversion and churn for apps. It also runs paywall experiments on Pro and Enterprise. For web SaaS billed through Stripe it is not the natural choice.
When you need actions, not another dashboard
Here is the uncomfortable part for a lot of teams. Switching from Baremetrics to ChartMogul or ProfitWell changes where you look at your churn chart. It does not change the churn.
If the reason you are shopping is "we have the numbers and still do not know what to do", what you need is a tool that turns billing data into decisions. That is the job Monetisation does.
It connects to Stripe with a restricted read-only key and to your public pricing page. From there it shows the basics you would expect, MRR per plan, discounts, yearly share, churn, past-due revenue and a 12 month MRR history, and then goes further:
- An opportunity list in dollars. Each finding, such as "Introduce an annual plan at about two months free" or "Reduce discount leakage", carries a low, expected and high monthly estimate and a plain-English method line.
- Playbooks. Three or four concrete steps for each finding.
- Experiments with verdicts. Test a pricing page variant on new visitors with a holdout, or a price change in Stripe against the baseline, and get a win, flat, loss or not-enough-data verdict.
- Discount leakage monitor and competitor pricing watch on Growth and Scale, with Slack or email alerts.
You can see what this looks like on your own site in about a minute with the SaaS pricing audit, which reads your public pages and returns your first three opportunities without a card.
Plenty of teams keep a metrics tool and add Monetisation on top. Smaller ones often find the Stripe view inside Monetisation covers what they used Baremetrics for, and drop the extra subscription.
How to choose
Answer three questions:
- Where do your subscriptions live? App stores point to RevenueCat. Stripe, Chargebee or Recurly open up everything else.
- What is your budget for metrics alone? Zero means ProfitWell Metrics, ChartMogul's free tier or Stripe's own analytics.
- What decision are you stuck on? If it is "what should we charge and for what", a metrics tool will not answer it. Look at pricing optimization software instead, or read our longer comparison of pricing optimization software for SaaS.
One more practical note. If your Baremetrics use was partly about board reporting, metrics are only half of what investors ask for. Most boards also want a proper income statement, and you can turn a bookkeeping export into a board-ready P&L instead of building it by hand each month.
Switching without losing history
Whatever you pick, plan the move so you keep your trend lines:
- Export your Baremetrics metrics and customer list as CSV before you cancel.
- Connect the new tool to Stripe first and let it backfill. Most tools rebuild history from your billing data, so MRR charts should match within a small margin.
- Compare one month side by side. Small differences usually come from how each tool treats discounts, refunds and failed payments.
- Cancel add-ons such as Payment Recovery only once their replacement is running, so failed renewals keep getting retried.
Try the revenue side
If you are leaving Baremetrics because the charts stopped helping, start with the audit form at the top of this page. Enter your website and you get your first three revenue opportunities with dollar ranges in about a minute. When you want the full list built from your own Stripe data, pick a plan from 49 USD a month billed yearly and connect Stripe.
Questions
What is the best alternative to Baremetrics?
For pure subscription metrics, ChartMogul and ProfitWell Metrics are the most common switches: ChartMogul is free up to 10,000 USD MRR and ProfitWell Metrics has a free core. If your real need is deciding what to change in pricing and proving it worked, a tool such as Monetisation fits better than another dashboard.
How much does Baremetrics cost?
Baremetrics lists Launch from 75 USD a month for up to 360,000 USD ARR, Growth from 255 USD a month up to 3.6 million ARR and Scale from 1,152 USD a month above that, with up to 35 percent off on yearly billing. Payment Recovery and Cancellation Insights are add-ons at 129 USD a month each.
Is there a free Baremetrics alternative?
Yes. ProfitWell Metrics from Paddle has a free core metrics product, ChartMogul is free until you pass 10,000 USD in MRR, and Stripe Billing includes basic subscription analytics in the dashboard. They cover MRR, churn and LTV well; they do not tell you which price or plan to change.
Is ChartMogul better than Baremetrics?
ChartMogul is stronger on data modelling, multiple billing sources and its free tier for small companies, while Baremetrics bundles payment recovery and cancellation surveys as add-ons. Reviewers on G2 rate ChartMogul easier to administer. Pick ChartMogul for analytics depth, Baremetrics if you want recovery and cancellation tools from one vendor.
Do I need a metrics tool and a pricing tool?
Many SaaS companies end up with both. A metrics tool reports what happened: MRR, churn, expansion. A pricing tool works out what to change next and measures whether it worked. Monetisation shows MRR per plan, churn, discounts and yearly share from Stripe, so smaller teams often use it without a separate dashboard.
